When I took these photographs I never saw them as anything in common, i.e. a theme.  But when I started this latest page in Behance I noticed there was something which when I think about it has always attracted me to the sort of images I dwell on.  Shape and form are often quoted by the experts as part of the principles of art and sculpture.  Not being formally educated in the arts I have not consciously sort out their evidence and understanding.  By trying to make sense of my images in all of the work I have produced over the last few years, there is a theme.

Circles, curves, arches, symmetry, regularity and light and shadows.  The human eye is attracted to light, bright and focused objects.  I'm no different.  When I'm flying my drone the advantage gained from looking through a live screen helps identify objects, which I interpret in my own understanding (Not that I have the luxury of time when airborne due to limited drone battery life) which I can quickly capture.  The American cemetery below gives nothing away from the road which I pass nearly every day on my way into Cambridge, but from the air, it reveals a beautiful manicured and cared for landscape worthy of fallen heroes and like all war graves follows the ethos of regulation and order found in all peacetime military thinking.

The rolling contours of the Lake District and Faroe Islands are brought to life by the sun catching them at different times of the day.  The shadows help deepen the contours and give the images depth and a 3 dimensional look, where on a overcast day the images would appear flat and dull.  Neither of these two can be described as flat and dull when you are walking amongst them.

Black and white photography requires contrast which can be seen in the arches of the viaduct with its complex brickwork being highlighted by the mortar between them, the fishing trawler's farm nets taken from above, the bicycle against the bench in sepia and the mono light highlighting the timber grain of the wharf.
